The Codger Way

The Codger Way

We come from roads both rough and grand,
From every shore, from every land.
We’ve worn all hats — the rich, the poor,
We’ve seen the ceiling and the floor.

We’ve voted left, we’ve voted right,
We’ve argued long into the night.
But time, you see, has smoothed the tone —
It teaches hearts to find their own.

We’ve prayed in chapels, temples, trees,
We’ve marched, we’ve kneeled, we’ve bent our knees.
But now we sit — side by side,
No more to prove, no need to hide.

We’re codgers now — the badge is worn
By those who’ve laughed and those who’ve mourned.
We share a wink, a knowing grin,
The joke of life beneath the skin.

No fence divides this stage of soul,
No label fits, no pigeonhole.
We’re patched together — scar and grace —
And every codger finds their place.

So pull your chair in, take your part,
We’re bound not by the past, but heart.
And in this ragtag cabaret,
The only rule: the codger way.
I’m weary on this road I tread, my strength a little worn.
I reach to you, dear friends of mine, for hope to be reborn.
Your words, a light to guide my way, your presence keeps me strong.
With you beside me on this path, I’ll find where I belong.
And codgers shall live forever!
